Pain is Inevitable, but Suffering is Optional

We are all on the same journey. We are all “not okay” on some level, but we all find different ways of dealing with the pain or denying it. Often our genes decide for us, make us tumble into addictions, there- often we are unable to free ourselves from their grip- not in this lifetime anyway…

We lost a lot of people this year who were overwhelmed by pain and suffering and intentionally or unintentionally left this physical plane…the ripple effect of their passing has been astonishing. I’m experiencing deeper and more meaningful conversations then ever with people all over the world who are questioning what is happening…

Though it has been said over and over again- that money, success, recognition and romantic love does not bring happiness, we all somehow depend of these things to make us feel complete. They do-for a short period of time, only to bring us back to our “usual” state of contentment. So we chase those things again, as society and the world is telling us- once we have them we’re gonna be OK. Why don’t we learn from our experiences and put our focus on securing happiness that’s lasting and not dependent on the outside circumstances?

I KNOW that my relationship with the Higher Power and the ability to stop my mind from creating emotions and feelings that do not serve me IS the key to life, but why do I keep coming back to the belief that “if I just get this” I will be happy…

I don’t know…I guess just the fact that I’m conscious of my faulty belief system is the step in the right direction. Why did God create these desires in us, though He knows that only by letting go of them we can enter the state of bliss…? Maybe it’s because there is no ONE God, but the creation of humanity is HIS extension of HIMESELF and our free will got us to the point that we are at-now.

Some influential people are trying hard to rely this message, put the focus back on the power and divinity inside of us, where we start to RE- member how we were created. Oprah and Deepak Chopra created a simple 21 day meditation course teaching that putting aside just 20min a day for being still and getting in touch with that higher consciousness will create the shift.

Russell Brand in often unconventional ways speaks out about challenges of our brain, laws implemented by the government that often contribute to our failure. I love to see influential people speak up about this…

And then there’s the HBO show “Leftovers” that focuses on the pain in each of us- and different ways we deal with it. Kevin (Justin Theroux) is tormented inside “why isn’t it enough” after seeing his seemingly perfect life and happy family. The thing that will make it feel like it’s enough- isn’t detected by our senses- that’s the issue- we can’t touch or see God, we can’t smell Him, we can’t feel the Higher Vibration…so we make other things our “God”…but with openness to the unknown, the practice of stillness we can hopefully one day experience that “it”…and it WILL be enough… it’s been described as a “knowing” not even a “feeling”…but it can only be experienced if we CHOOSE to end the cycle of our suffering and accept that pain is just a part of life- it's how we react to it that matters.

This has been the hardest year for me personally. I’ve been forced to let go of people I didn’t want to let go of, some where removed from Earth by their destiny, with no warning.… I had to embrace the unknown, accept not understanding why things happen the way they do, why people do things the way they do…essentially relinquishing control. In that space though, I’ve found that I have nothing else left but Faith.

Maybe stripped of things that feel comfortable, things that I gave meaning to- as “good” or “right”- I will make room for what is actually divinely meant for me… I mean, do I really know what is gonna lead me to uninterrupted happiness? No, I don’t have a crystal ball- but hey- God does…!

My prayer today for all of us is- Let us just enjoy this journey called LIFE, but riding shotgun with God…
